“A Girl’s Game”

She is Different.

I have an alter ego sometimes when I write. I call her Cherry Bomb. She’s real, raw and doesn’t hold back her thoughts or opinions. She’s the person who says what we all want to say at different times, she just makes it rhyme. This is the response to my other poem “Boys Lie.”

That little black dress we put on

It definitely wasn’t for you

But we play it off

So you don’t look like a fool

We tease and we flirt

In an attempt to get over our old hurt

Dance around with our friends

An escape from reality until the party ends

Not trying to catch your eye

But you cut in so we play nice and lie

We’ll let you buy us a drink

Sit down, chat it up at the bar

Fully knowing you think you’ll get far

We laugh at your jokes and pat your arm

Bat our eyes, really putting on the charm

Oh fellas you think you have game

Well honey ours will put you to shame

We have been told it’s not cute to be bold

Be whatever he wants something soft to hold

Don’t be loud with your opinion

Put your guard down and let him in

It’s okay if he destroys you

That’s just what boys do

But if a girl lies or has game

She’s called a whore and put to shame

These are the rules from the old days

Where the girls caved to the boys’ ways

Fortunately for us, this is no longer the case

We changed the rules and aren’t something to chase
