Dear 2020 Self
I wrote this reminder about halfway through the year, when exhaustion hit. It appeared that I was not in control of anything in my life, which further added to my mental state of burn out. I let my victories be overshadowed by fear, confusion and fighting against a huge unknown. We forget the tiny triumphs tend to be the most important wins we need in our most desperate times.
2020, you are not want anyone expected. You have brought the majority of the world to its knees. You have humbled us, broke us down and made us take a greater look at the simple things in life (toilet paper for instance). I can not count you as a loss. I do not wish to skip over 2020 because I would be choosing to let the ugliness of the year win. I choose to reclaim my victories. I choose to see this year of revelation as the chance for a revolution of this world (thank you Glennon Doyle for those words).
For all of you reading this now, remember this small yet massive detail…You kept going! You didn’t stop or give up. You learned, adapted and took the new path presented. You did the hard things and are still here! Be proud of yourself for accomplishing that.
Dear 2020 self...
The 20 lbs you gained, don’t worry they come off.
The road you are traveling that they don’t get, don’t worry they still don’t get it.
The shame you feel when you look in the mirror, don’t worry it starts to go away.
The champions you are desperately searching for, don’t worry they are there and show up unexpectedly.
The tears you hold down, don’t worry they pour out during workouts.
The voice you are struggling to find, don’t worry it starts shouting at you.
The dream you hold closest, don’t worry you make it happen.
What you think you have figured out, don’t worry you don’t.
Dear 2020 self you kept going and I am so proud of you!
